English Program

Haiti’s proximity to the United States and English’s growing prominence in global markets is making the English language an attractive quality to prospective employers in Haiti. After many in the Croix-des-Bouquets area displayed interest in learning English, HAC started six English courses ranging from beginner to advanced. After the completion of the course, students receive certification, verifying their fluency to prospective employers. The English program is curriculum based, with daily lessons focusing on grammar and communication, through the use of books, worksheets, and multimedia.

HAC graduated its first English class in December of 2011. Students went on to receive jobs as translators at local NGOs and gained valuable skills to help them advance in their education. Many of HAC-Haiti's English students are looking to attain employable skills, in the last course of the program they practice writing cover letters and resumes in English as well as conduct practice interviews with staff and volunteers. HAC-Haiti believes strongly in its students ability to excel in the workplace and works with each graduate to help them attain future employment and advance their education.

HAC-Haiti has also expanded its English program into Ecole Shalom. Basic English classes are taught to all grade levels K-6 three times a week. Students learn vocabulary, sentence structure and focus on pronunciation.
Native English speakers are always needed as volunteer teachers in our English Program and to hold conversation circles at the compound.
